Updates to our pricing, seats, and billing experience

Ben SternProduct Director, Figma

We are updating our pricing, seats, and billing experience. Here's what you need to know before changes take effect on March 11, 2025.

Product design looks very different today than it did when we first launched Figma in 2016. Multiplayer design was still a novel concept, and features that are now core to our product—Auto Layout, Interactive Components, Variables, and Multi-edit—were just ideas we hoped to one day build. While our features and products have expanded since then, our billing experience hasn’t kept pace.

Today, we want to share upcoming changes to our pricing, seats, and billing experience. These changes will take effect starting on March 11, 2025, and will include:

  • Increased pricing for Figma Design—see table below for details
  • Re-architecture of our billing model—we are moving away from user-driven upgrades to giving admins upfront approval over seat upgrades by default
  • More functionality with every seat—all paid seats will include access to FigJam and Figma Slides, making it easier for everyone to collaborate

Re-architecture of our billing model

Alongside these changes, we’ve re-architected our underlying billing model to provide admins with more visibility and upfront control, including new seat request and approval flows.

Today, seat upgrades are driven by user actions and admins have the ability to review them afterwards, before their next bill. We've heard from you that this can be a frustrating experience for admins.

We're updating this so that admins will have upfront control from the moment a new seat is requested—by default, any seat upgrade that incurs additional costs will need to be approved by an admin. To further simplify, admins will only need to manage one seat per user, instead of multiple seats per product like they do today.

These new billing workflows are designed to give admins the control they need without getting in the way of important work. To ensure users aren’t blocked from collaborating while admins review their seat request, they’ll be able to use the functionality of the seat they requested temporarily for up to three days. During that time, they can create new files and edit any files where their teammates have given them edit access.

Approved seats will be added to your next invoice, prorated from the day of approval through the end of your subscription period. These changes apply to all paid plans.

Here's what you need to know before the changes take effect.

Timing for these changes

Starting on March 11, 2025 existing plans will be migrated to the new Full, Dev, Collab, and View seats, as well as the new seat upgrade workflows.

Price increases for the Full seat and updates to prorated billing will go into effect at your first renewal on or after March 11, 2025.

Existing customers will receive an email with more details. For more information, you can learn more in our Help Center or reach out to your account manager.

What's next

These billing updates lay the foundation for a new feature coming later in 2025: Connected Projects to improve the collaboration and billing experience for agencies and freelancers.

We’ve heard from many users in the freelancer and agency communities that our current billing model requires you to purchase licenses on multiple plans in order to collaborate with clients. With Connected Projects, freelancers and agencies will be able to seamlessly create and co-edit files with clients using their existing Figma seats, resolving the need for multiple licenses.

As always, we appreciate the feedback you’ve shared and your patience as we’ve rebuilt our billing model from the ground up.

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to include more specific information about the temporary seat users are granted during the three-day admin review period.
